MEREZZATE: HIGHLIGHTS
A different layout of the spaces
- A “district” neighbourhood: a different layout between private, public and semi-public spaces, that are integrated into continuous open space to foster sociality.
- Open spaces: a system of permeable courtyards face the central pedestrian walkway, which leads to the main square, in the North, home to local and urban services.
- Innovative solutions: collective functions and green spaces coexist organically, as in the case of the playground situated above the LIDL supermarket that mimics a small wood for children and families, almost hidden among the apartments.
- Team: six architectural firms and four engineering companies collaborated on building Merezzate.
Experimenting with a responsible consumption model
- “Purchase groups”: shared buying of furniture and home appliances, groceries and energy supply, with savings for users and leading to more responsible buying.
- Shared orchards to promote collaboration among the residents and local food production, with a subsequent increase in biodiversity.
- Workshop to repair, reuse and share objects.
Integrazione con il quartiere
- The Merezzate project is co-funded by the EIT Climate-KIC Smart Sustainable District, a European programme.
- The Merezzate experience will be used as an example to outline guidelines for a new model of urban development, replicable in other Italian cities.
High logistic functionality
- Strategically located near the Rogoredo transport hub where high speed train routes, M3 urban subway, and public buses and trams converge.
