Redo joins CO2alizione Italia: 50 Italian companies united for climate neutrality

A press conference was held today, June 15, to launch CO2alizione Italia, the alliance of more than 50 major Italian companies, including Redo Sgr, which have decided to formally commit to the explicit incorporation of the purpose of climate neutrality in their bylaws.

Aware of the high environmental impact of the real estate sector, Redo Sgr always direct its affordable housing projects and operations towards carbon neutral ambitions. Already a Benefit Company and, from November 2021, a B Corp, for Redo, joining CO2alizione Italia is an inevitable commitment, inherent in the DNA of the Company. CO2alizione Italia brings together more than 50 major Italian companies which include the explicit integration of the purpose of climate neutrality in their Bylaws: thus, the evolution towards a zero-emission economy becomes a goal to be pursued over time, with priority equal to profit goals, in line with national and European targets that aim for a 55 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 and zero emissions by 2050.

The goal of the coalition, which was launched at today’s press conference at the Civita Association headquarters in Rome, is to stimulate a concrete commitment from companies, which, through membership in CO2alizione Italia, are called upon to report and publish real actions and targets related to fighting the climate change. As a Benefit Company and B Corp, we have decided to join CO2alizione Italia to highlight our commitment to an environmentally and community-conscious approach.

Our social housing and urban regeneration projects propose models that are affordable for the most fragile part of the population and experiment innovative solutions within energy, construction, sustainable mobility and resilience challenges.

The most important examples of this dual commitment are the winning projects of Reinventing Cities: L’Innesto and Green Between, destined to become the first carbon neutral areas in Milan, and Aria, which with its 150 thousand m2 area will be the first carbon negative area in Milan: it produces its own energy needs on-site from renewable sources (with its 36 thousand m2 of photovoltaics) and it gives surplus of energy to other areas of the city, thus lowering greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Ours approach naturally integrates the three goals of CO2 Coalition Italy:

  • Accelerate the progressive evolution of companies’ operational and business models toward a zero greenhouse gas economy, in line with European and national green transition goals.
  • Inspire Italian, European and global companies to follow suit.
  • Let Italy emerge as the driving force behind a wave of transformation that is as extraordinary as it is necessary.

REDO JOINS CO2ALIZIONE ITALIA: 50 ITALIAN COMPANIES UNITED FOR CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

A strong and official commitment to carbon neutrality: that is the goal of CO2alizione, that brings together more than 50 Italian companies which integrate carbon neutral objectives in their statutes. Redo also joins them, highlighting once more its commitment to an attentive approach towards the environment and the community. The initiative’s presentation took place Wednesday June 15th 2022.
We, at Redo, have always oriented our projects and operations towards carbon neutral ambitions, conscious of the real estate sector’s environmental impact. Already a Benefit company, and a B Corp since November 2021, adhering to CO2alizione Italia is an inevitable step, written in our DNA.

CO2alizione Italia brings together more than 50 important Italian companies, which have formally decided to commit to integrating climate neutrality objectives into their statutes. This way, the evolution towards a zero-emission economy becomes a sought after objective over time, with the same priority as profit. A commitment aligned with the national and European targets, that aims for a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030 and zero emissions before 2050. The coalition’s objective, launched at the press conference at the Associazione Civita headquarters in Rome, is to encourage a tangible involvement from companies. By joining CO2alizione Italia, companies are asked to annually report and publish concrete actions and objectives towards commitments made.

As a Benefit company and B Corp, we at Redo decided to join CO2alizione Italia to state once more, our commitment to a responsible approach towards the environment and the community.

DECARBONISATION IN REDO’S WINNING “REINVENTING CITIES” PROJECTS: A COMMITMENT EMBEDDED INTO OUR DNA

Our projects envision an approach oriented towards a just transition, both for the environment and the society. By experimenting with innovative solutions, in fact, our social housing and urban regeneration projects propose an affordable model for the most vulnerable groups, emphasizing the challenges we face in terms of energy, construction, sustainable mobility and resilience.

The most prominent examples of these commitments are the project winners of Reinventing Cities: L’Innesto and Green Between, destined to become the first carbon neutral area in Milan, and ARIA, that with its 150,000 m2, will become the first carbon negative area in Milan: not only will its entire energy need be produced on site from renewable sources (with 36,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels), but it will give up a surplus of energy to other areas of the city, therefore reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.

The strategies we employ to lower the environmental impacts of the urban regeneration process involve mitigation (through energy efficiency plans, implementing innovative constructive systems and enhancing sustainable mobility systems), compensation (through the start-up of renewable energy communities and our Circular Housing service), and the reduction of CO2eq (through urban reforestation projects). This is how, with the ARIA, L’Innesto and Green Between projects, we aim to obtain a substantial CO2eq reduction, produced with respect to the Business as Usual model, as shown below.

Ours is therefore an approach that naturally integrates with CO2alizione Italia’s three objectives, which in summary are:

  • Accelerate the gradual evolution of companies’ operational business models towards a zero GHG emission economy, in line with national and European objectives for ecological transition.
  • Inspire Italian, European, and international companies to follow suit.
  • Allowing Italy to stand out as a driving force behind a wave of extraordinary yet necessary transformation.
